1. General characteristics of the profession
Managing tower crane in the construction of buildings.
2. Official duties
The main production operations performed by the driver are: the movement of the crane, turning it around its axis, lifting and lowering the load. All these operations are carried out by the driver by pressing the control handles located in the crane cabin. The movements of the driver are characterized by the accuracy of the efforts applied to the controls, smooth shifting speeds. The driver's work is very intense, his attention is constantly focused on the operations performed. It reaches its highest concentration during slinging (attachment of cargo) and its detachment from the ground. The driver in conditions of considerable remoteness must correctly perceive and interpret the slinger's signals. When moving the load, the driver keeps in view not only these signals, but also the work of the neighboring machines. All these actions impose high demands on the visual perception of the driver, the ability to accurately assess the spatial location of objects. To ensure uninterrupted operation of all mechanisms of the crane, the driver carefully makes his technical inspection, lubrication mechanisms, is involved in preventive maintenance. Since the driver has to perform daily ascents and descents, to work at high altitude and in a limited area, he must have good health and physical endurance. Modern tower cranes are highly reliable. They are equipped with devices that insure a person’s life from accidents. These are various kinds of limiters that automatically stop the operation of a crane when the driver acts incorrectly. Work of the crane operator is under control of dispatching services, repair crews are on duty round the clock. The driver's cab is heated. Under adverse weather conditions (thunderstorms, strong winds), work stops. The driver works in 2-3 shifts. The crane can be operated both by a man and a woman.
3. Qualification requirements
