Tourism manager

Lecture

1. General characteristics of the profession

A specialist in the field of tourism who performs the entire set of procedures to ensure customer trips abroad.

2. Official duties

The duties of the tourism manager include contacts with travel agencies, marketing the market, during which he finds the most profitable in terms of payment, terms and quality of work of the company; interaction with airlines to purchase tickets; contact with an insurance agent; host party. He talks to customers, book flights for them, a hotel, draws up insurance and all the necessary documents. The tourism manager must know a lot of information about the country to which he is sending people, and sometimes be able to give vague information on issues unknown to him, or invent something in the hope that this is indeed the case. To avoid this, there is a division within the company when the manager leads only one or a few countries, and he periodically goes on study tours, during which he studies the sights of the country and its hotels.
In tourism, more often than in other areas, there are various "production" problems and force majeure due to the illiterate work of the cooperating firms and due to circumstances that do not depend on anyone. The plane may not take off, the war may begin, tourists may not be allowed to receive especially strict customs, as, for example, in Israel, the receiving party may “forget” to meet tourists who in the new country, not knowing the language, will be completely disoriented; the airline can accommodate parents and their young child on different planes and the like. Therefore, the manager must have a high resistance to stress and be able to quickly resolve the situation, while not leaving the working rhythm. Often, people working in such firms are “fanatics” in this field and will not go to work in another sphere, even for a large salary.

3. Qualification requirements

Humanitarian education, specialization “Organization of tourism” is desirable.
