Procedure:

  1. Pour 1 cm³ of sodium phosphate (Na₃PO₄) solution into a test tube.

  2. Add a few drops of silver(I) nitrate (AgNO₃) solution.

  3. Observe the changes.

Signs of the reaction:

Upon adding the silver nitrate solution, the appearance of a yellow precipitate is observed — this is a sign of the formation of sparingly soluble silver(I) phosphate.

Molecular equation of the reaction:

Na3PO4+3AgNO3→Ag3PO4↓+3NaNO3

Full ionic equation:

3Ag++PO43−→Ag3PO4↓

Conclusion:

The formation of a yellow precipitate of silver phosphate confirms the presence of phosphate ions (PO₄³⁻) in the solution.
