Circles in perspective
In your compositional sketches you rarely find circles that are looked right in front and that look like circles on paper. Most often the circles have to draw in perspective. A perspective circle is easy to construct inside a square drawn in the correct perspective (as in Figure 4.2) . To draw a circle in such a perspective-spatial square, you first need to determine the center of the square (Figure 4.2) , then draw vertical and horizontal lines through it and then follow all the steps shown in Figure 4.4 . The tower clock in Figure 4.4 shows an example of using this method of drawing a circle in perspective.
Figure 4.3 .
The center of a square drawn in perspective is at the intersection of its diagonals.
Figure 4.4.
A. To draw a circle in perspective, follow steps 1 through 4 in sequence.
1. Determine the center of the square.
2. Draw vertical and horizontal lines through the center.
3. Draw short straight lines along the sides of the square where the circle will come in contact with them.
4. Connect these short straight lines with rounded curves to complete the circle.
B. Practical application of the circle in perspective.
The perspective of the circle is constructed in the following sequence:
We fix the position of a number of points of a circle by intersecting straight lines of a particular position.
We construct the perspectives of these lines and mark their points of intersection - the desired perspectives of the circle points.
The base of the picture passes through the center of the circle.
The base of the picture is located in front of the circle.
