The nails of a person, the sleeves of his raincoat, his shoes, trousers, corns on his hands, facial expressions, cufflinks, movements - all this says a lot about a person. An attentive observer, combining the observed signs, can come to an almost unmistakable conclusion.
SHERLOCK HOLMES, 1892
As a child I always understood that people often say nothing at all what they think and feel. And by understanding the true thoughts and feelings of people and responding to their needs accordingly, you can achieve your own goals. When I was eleven, I began my working career as a sales agent. After classes, I sold rubber sponges for washing dishes to earn a little pocket money. I very quickly learned to understand whether the person who opened the door is going to buy my goods or not. If I was beaten off, but at the same time the palms of the person were open, I understood that I could show perseverance. Such people never showed aggressiveness. When I was politely asked to retire and pointed to the door with a finger or a clenched palm, I felt that it was really better to leave. I liked to trade, I realized that I can achieve success in this matter. In high school, I started selling the dishes in the evenings. Then I managed to earn money for my first major purchase. Trade allowed me to communicate with people and study them from close range. I learned how to identify potential buyers by body language. These skills proved invaluable in the disco. I accurately determined which of the girls would agree to dance with me, and which one is better not to approach.
When I was twenty years old, I entered an insurance company and managed to achieve significant success. I became the youngest employee who managed to sell policies for a million dollars in a year. My achievements were honored. I was lucky, because my knowledge of body language, acquired at school, turned out to be quite applicable in the new field of study. I realized that I can succeed in any business related to communication with people.
