If each point of this shape is displaced in some way, then a new shape is obtained. One shape is derived from another by transformation.
The transformation of one shape into another is called
motion if it maintains the distance between the points. Such a transformation translates any two points X and Y of one shape into points X `and Y` of another shape so that XY = X`Y`.
The transformation inverse to motion is also motion.
