Let's see how they looked in the 90s : HotBox, Excite, WebCrawler, Ask.com, Yahoo !, Google, Dogpile, AltaVista, Lycos, MSN (Bing), AOL Search, Infoseek (Go.com), Netscape Search, MetaCrawler, Alltheweb, Rambler (since 1997), Aport (since 1998) and of course the beloved Yandex (since 1998).

Someone does not even remember these search engines, as he does not remember cassettes for a tape recorder and other historical heritage. But I found and even used at that time (the year 2000) a part of these search engines.
