Definition
Decision support systems — DSS (Decision Support, System - DSS) allow end users to interactively work with all types of information, conduct analytical studies, build models and play out scenarios for solving weakly structured and even unstructured problems in innovative projects.
Information systems providing capabilities fundamentally different from the functions of management IS laid, in the 1980s, the foundation for the intellectualization of the decision-making process, which is reflected in their name. It is understood that all other IS, in one way or another, also provide support for decision-making, each at its own level, but for such systems this quality is the main and most strongly expressed one. Nowadays they have become an obligatory part of the Corporate Information System.
Intended mainly for supporting decisions at the level of operational regulation, multi-user DSS are also used at other levels. Executives and leading managers can use the financial modules of a DSS to predict, for example, the efficiency of using the company's assets when business activity or the economic situation in the country changes. Middle managers can

use the same system to assess the prospects of short-term investments in the projects being carried out. For project managers, this is a tool for financial planning and the allocation of funds for planned purchases.
