"Fire" - because it lights the lights. Simply put - lamplighter. Earlier in the evenings the streets were lit not with electric lamps, but with lamps filled with fuel. With the onset of dusk, the lamp-lights set fire to the lights in the lamps, and in the morning they put out the fire.
