Age: 60-70 years. Characteristics of elderly people: slowed reaction, irritability, suspiciousness, grumbling; the emotional background is characterized by emotional discontent, increased sensitivity, they suffer from a deficit of positive emotions, chronic somatic illnesses; in the brain: changes in blood vessels, a decrease in the number of nerve cells => poor nourishment of nerve cells => they function poorly => mental processes are slowed, rigidity of thought processes, perseveration, fixation on negative experiences. Features of elderly people's lives that influence the development of mental illness: a sharp change in life, a narrowing of the circle of communication and activity, a reduction in sociability as such in the people themselves. On one hand an anxious-depressive background, and on the other suspiciousness — factors influencing the development of mental illness.

Delusional ideas appear, along with interpretations of everything happening. In old age there is a smoothing of differences in character, with similar psychological types emerging. Features of neurotic disorders: there are no longer 3 [classic] neuroses.
- 1) it is impossible to identify a definite form of neurosis, since the boundaries between them are blurred
- 2) gradual entry into the disorder, slow development
- 3) they are chronic in nature, there is no complete change...
- 4) somatic complaints are closely intertwined with neurotic ones
- 5) the depressive-hypochondriacal component is predominant among the complaints
- 6) psychotherapeutic intervention is one of the methods of treatment
causes of neuroses:
- 1) death of loved ones, onset of a fatal illness
- 2) family conflicts
- 3) the influence of unpleasant somatic sensations, which turn into anxiety, fears, hypochondria
- 4) actualization of past experiences and memories
- 5) dreams, as a reflection of what is to happen, signs, omens
- 6) the influence of the awareness of old age and all the changes associated with it
- 7) sexual problems, unlike in young people, autonomic symptoms are almost not visible, since somatic and asthenic symptoms come to the fore; suicidal statements are undifferentiated in nature and are rarely carried out; tearfulness and emotional weakness are due to an organic background. The neurotic disorder turns into a neurotic development of personality.
