Neurotic disorders are a large, heterogeneous group of transient functional disorders caused by acute or chronic psychological trauma.
Outcomes:
- 1) recovery.
- 2) chronic state (neurotic personality development, i.e. transformation of the personality toward asthenic development).
- 3) Defect.
- 4) Pathological character development (accentuation of personality traits).
The dynamics of neuroses include 3 stages (according to Kovalev):
- 1) the neurotic reaction stage. The clinical picture here is almost entirely accounted for by reactive-neurotic symptoms.
- 2) The neurotic state stage. The dependence of clinical manifestations on the situation decreases, and accentuated personality features come to the fore, i.e. premorbid personality, constitution, reactivity, residual organic cerebral insufficiency.
- 3) the neurotic development stage. Spontaneous mood changes arise, a neurotic type of response becomes fixed, and self-development of neurotic and pathocharacterological manifestations occurs, which to a certain extent become «detached» from unfavorable situational influences.
