Lecture

In the 60s, a number of events took place that turned out to be very important for the Catholic press: In 62-65, the second Vatican Council, opened at the initiative of Pope John XXIII in 1962 and lasted until 1965 (during this time, the Pope changed Paul VI). Opening the cathedral on October 11, 1962, John XXIII declared that the purpose of the Council was to renew the Church and its rational reorganization so that the Church could demonstrate its understanding of the development of the world and become involved in this process. The Pope expressed his wish that the result of this Council would be an open Church to the world. The task of the Council was not to reject and condemn the realities of the modern world, but to carry out long-overdue reforms. John 23, becoming pope in 58, opened new pages in the history of the Catholic Church. Update on themselves felt the Catholic editions. The work of the 2nd Vatican Council received coverage throughout the Italian press, but the renewal of the church met with resistance in conservative circles and in the conservative Italian press. The work of the cathedral was continued under Paul VI. At the second session of the council (December 4, 1963) a decree on the media ("Inter mirifica") was adopted, which was then proclaimed by Paul VI. In order to implement the decisions recorded in the document, the pope created in early 1964 an appropriate commission. The meeting of Paul VI showed that the Vatican attaches importance not only to the republican press, but also to the wide participation of Catholics in the world of communists. The circulation of Avvenire d'Italia increases sharply. But on several issues, the newspaper causes disapproval in the conservative church and secular circles. She was accused of flirting with the left. She is experiencing great financial difficulties. Merger with Milan Italy. It should not have been controlled by the Vatican; not only ecclesiastical, but secular journalists should work in it. In December 1968, the first issue of the Catholic newspaper Abnerira was released, but its position, its openness, and its independence from political views led to a change in the leadership of the editorial board. She became a conservative edition. In the middle of the 60, against the backdrop of the struggle of supporters and opponents of the left, the struggle in the sphere of the press escalated. At the end of 68, the Communist Party took measures to solve the problems of the party press, set up a press bureau. In 66, a national conference was held, where problems of the communist press were discussed. The press raises the issue of freedom of the press. This is also referred to by the Vatican's Journal "The Catholic,". He wrote that all the press in Italy was either under the heel of the economy or under the heel of politics.
