Basics of Journalism Introduction. The value of the course, its goals and objectives

Lecture

The subject of the course is the activity of journalism in general, journalistic groups and an individual journalist in terms of the presence of special professional ethics in this activity. Professional ethics in this case acts as a set of categories, values, norms and rules that are present in professional consciousness, making up its important part - professional morality, and thereby regulate professional activity. At the same time, professional ethics regulates journalistic activity in a special way, speaking as a self-regulator in the field of journalism deliberately developed and implemented by journalists. It should be especially noted that professional ethics helps to realize, in particular, the function of social responsibility of journalism as an institution and a journalist as a citizen, because in professional ethics civil and professional interaction in the activities and behavior of a journalist is carried out.

The study of such a phenomenon as professional ethics, mastering its content will allow an aspiring journalist to fill the technological aspects of their work with moral content, constantly keep in their professional consciousness the social guidelines of information activities, and therefore work more efficiently in social and professional terms.

This course is of particular importance for young journalists today. Modern journalism only gradually and very slowly overcomes the “childhood diseases” of that break, of the crisis that it faced in the 90s of the 20th century. Among these problems is confusion in the definition and implementation of professional tasks, and consequently, moral criteria of work. The moral disease of Russian journalism has a very deep character and is associated with certain “defective” conditions for the implementation of its tasks, with significant changes in the content of journalism, the conditions for its functioning in society. It is important for a young journalist to understand that knowledge of professional and ethical criteria of work is an important, but not the only means of effective work. It is necessary to internally adopt these norms, apply them despite, at times, the resistance of our own professional environment, find an ethically correct way out of difficult professional situations.

Course reporting is a test that includes both the interview and the analysis of the problem situations proposed by the teacher.
