The student prepares and writes the master's thesis under the supervision of a research supervisor and is obliged to submit the work to the supervisor for review in parts within the established deadlines, in accordance with the individual plan for writing the master's thesis. Failure by the student to comply with the agreed schedule for writing the work (untimely completion of sections and of the work as a whole) is regarded as failure to fulfil the curriculum, which may be grounds for the student's expulsion from the university for failure to fulfil the curriculum.
The research supervisor of the master's thesis reviews the completed part of the work and provides appropriate recommendations.
After eliminating all of the supervisor's comments, the student finalizes the formatting of the work and submits it to the research supervisor for a final review to confirm compliance with the established requirements.
Provided the work has been performed properly, the research supervisor admits it to the preliminary defence.
The next stage is the preliminary defence of the master's thesis at the department, which is held no later than 4 weeks before the defence of the master's thesis.
The student submits the work for preliminary defence in completed but unbound form. If minor shortcomings are identified, a certain period of time may be given to correct them.
When the master's thesis is fully completed and duly formatted, it is submitted for consideration at a meeting of the university department (this procedure is usually called the "small defence of the master's thesis") in accordance with the appointed date.
The procedure of the preliminary defence is carried out in the following sequence:
The topic of the master's thesis, its author, and the research supervisor are announced.
The floor is given to the degree candidate to present a report on the topic of the master's thesis.
Questions are heard for the degree candidate on the content of the master's thesis, on the methodology and procedure of the research, which he or she must answer.
The floor is given to those present at the meeting to speak.
The results of the defence are announced.
The conclusion is adopted by open vote by a simple majority of those present at the meeting and is drawn up in the form of an extract from the minutes of the department meeting.
