The most extreme degree of sexual differentiation, therefore, the strongest gonochorism, is, from this broader point of view, sexual dimorphism, for example, in some species, there is a feature that male and female individuals of the same species are different from the outside no less, and sometimes significantly sharper, than members of two completely different families and genera.
Vertebrates have never seen such sharp gonochorism, as, for example, in crayfish or insects. They do not observe such a sharp distinction between male and female, as in the phenomena of sexual dimorphism.
It is more likely that countless mixed sexual forms are found, up to the so-called “hermaphroditism”, and in fish we find even entire families with exceptional bisexuality, with “normal hermaphroditism”. And here it is necessary to accept in advance that although there are extreme males with the most insignificant remnants of femininity, and extreme females with completely imperceptible masculinity, there is some hermaphroditic form in the center between these two types, however, there is no emptiness between these three points . We are specially occupied by people. However, all that is applicable to it can, with some modifications, be asserted with respect to the majority of other living beings that have the ability for sexual reproduction.
Regarding a person, one can say without hesitation the following: There are countless transitional degrees between a man and a woman, the so-called “intermediate sex forms.” As physics speaks of ideal gases that obey Boyle’s law, Gay Lussac’s (no gas actually obeys him), based on this law, to establish all sorts of deviations from him in this particular case: so we can accept the ideal man M and ideal woman F, as typical sexual forms that do not really exist.
Establishing these types is not only possible, but necessary. Not only the “object of art”, but also the object of science is a type, an idea, in the sense of Plato. Investigating the properties of an absolutely solid and absolutely elastic body, physics is well aware that reality cannot present to her a single case in which its conclusions could find complete confirmation. The empirical data, the intermediate stages between these two states of the body, serve only as a starting point for finding typical properties, and the same stages in the opposite direction: from theory to practice, are considered and exhaustively discussed as some mixed forms. Similarly, there are only all kinds of steps between a perfect man and a perfect woman, only known approximations to them, but they really do not exist.
