How to connect to a remote registry in Windows

Practice

Task: connect the remote registry of another computer (the so-called remote computer) on your own machine. This connection is called "Remote Registry" and lets you "control" the remote computer's registry, provided you have the appropriate administrative rights.

1) Open the Registry Editor.

2) From the menu choose: "File" -> "Connect Network Registry".

3) Enter the computer name or IP in the form: \\IP or \\hostname, for example, "\\192.168.0.1".

4) Click "Check Names".

5) Enter credentials if your current ones aren't sufficient to perform this operation on the remote computer.

6) Connect.

7) After connecting, you'll see a new root in the registry tree named after the remote computer — this is the remote registry.
