Lecture
English journalism of the 1st half of the 17th century can be described as extremely weak. There was no period at all. The first weekly newspaper “Weekly News” (1622) lasted only 10 years, and then was closed.
During the Bourgeois Revolution (1640–1660) 4 political blocs became active in England: Revelers (left wing of the Independents) - the petty bourgeois party, which gained independence in 1647. They advocated the freedom of trade, preaching and the press. Diggers - “mob”, “diggers”. Ultra radicals. Equalizing communism. The Resurrectionists are believers. Independents are middle class. . The struggle between them found its expression in the journalism of the time. However, the press was not completely free. Political struggle - increased attacks on parliament provoked the restoration of censorship (1643).
Freedom (although not in full) English journalism received only in the XVIII century
