How to Check Uptime (Time Since Last Boot) in Linux (Debian, CentOS) or FreeBSD

Practice

Uptime is the time that has passed since the system was last powered on (or the OS was booted) - it's fairly easy to check:

$ uptime

And the command is the same for Linux (whether Debian or CentOS) and for BSD (FreeBSD).
