A version of this kind of publication is based on incomplete evidence, on the assumptions of the author. The version excludes categorical conclusions, conclusions. The main factor that generates the genre version is the method of research of reality, defined as "speculation", "fiction". This method is leading in literary and artistic creativity. Evaluating the role of this method in art and literature, the writer Konstantin Paustovsky argued that a fact filed literary, with a concentration of several characteristics illuminated by the light of fiction, reveals the essence of things brighter than a different, meticulously composed report. In journalism, in contrast to literature, this method of knowledge of reality is usually considered reprehensible, since it gives unreasonable or unreliable knowledge. First of all, this should be attributed to cases of improper, inappropriate use of it. However, a journalist cannot do without the use of conjecture at all; it is a question of its “dosed” application. Conjecture becomes inevitable when a journalist reconstructs the unknown details of some generally known event or phenomenon. This method gives the audience the opportunity to more clearly see the event reported by the journalist, and the author himself gets an additional chance to draw the attention of the audience to his performance using the event details. Applying the speculation, creating a version of certain events, the author must necessarily indicate the conditional nature of his statements. This will protect him from accusations from the “heroes” of the publication in defamation. The purpose of the creation and publication of the version is to acquaint the audience with the “intermediate” results of the analysis of any event, phenomenon, submit to the court readers, viewers, listeners the author's interpretation ( comment) what is happening. The version shows the direction of reflection of the author of the publication, provides the audience with information about the possible causal relationships of the displayed events, gives options for predicting their future progress. The version does not appear in isolation, as a rule, it will soon be followed by others like it.

The development of the version in the right direction occurs when the author seeks further grounds among the facts that “fit” into the outline of a real (that is, having a material basis) causal relationship. Figuratively speaking, the correct version of the bread - relevant facts. It is they who “overgrow” it during its development.

The development of the version in the wrong direction occurs when the author aims to defend his assumption at all costs, not paying attention to the shaky nature of its justification. Most often, such justifications are as:

- use to confirm the version of facts that are irrelevant. In this case, any examples, facts from the sphere to which the version relates (for example, from the criminal sphere) are strung on the same thread - using some people as an argument in favor of their versions of opinions about the event under investigation. Possessing preliminary information in the form of a journalistic version, the audience follows with greater than previously attention the further course of events, as if comparing information already known to it with updated data, reliably substantiated conclusions, and conclusions of the author.

When publishing a version, a journalist can count on a certain reaction to this publication both from the audience and from the persons mentioned in this presentation. The version, therefore, is a kind of tool, a way of finding the right direction in studying the events of interest to the author.

It is possible that after the publication of the version, the author will receive messages from persons possessing the necessary information, which may be another link in finding the truth. This fully justifies the publication of materials in the genre version, making it indispensable in the palette of other journalistic genres.

A version in the work of a journalist usually acts as a genre, anticipating the preparation of material from other, more serious genres - correspondence, articles, journalistic investigations, etc., based only on reliable, verified information and facts.
