An analytical survey as a genre has some similarities with the genre of informational survey. This similarity consists primarily in the fact that the source of the content of publications attributable to these genres are the answers to the journalist's question. At the same time, both in fact and in a different genre, the structure of the text is formed during the presentation of the “fan” of the answers of the “respondents” received by the journalist.
But unlike publications attributable to the genre of informational survey, publications that make up the genre of an analytical survey acquire the features of a detailed commentary, which usually refers to analytical genres. This becomes possible as a result of the “cumulative effect” that occurs when several detailed answers to the same question are combined in one text. But an analytical survey cannot be attributed to the commentary genre, just as it is impossible to refer to this genre, for example, an interview, the content of which may be, say, a comment from some interviewee of a journalist about certain events. The assignment of the publication in this case to the genre of the interview occurs according to the method of obtaining by the journalist the information set out in it, but not according to the content of this information, which can be evaluative, commenting on its essence. Similar can be observed when considering the publications of some other genres.
Analytical polls very often appear on the pages of the Literary Gazette. Journalists turn to this genre when it is necessary, for example, to reveal the opinion of famous artists about some new play or the opinion of writers about modern fiction, etc. Willingly publish analytical surveys and many other newspapers and magazines.
