How not to get burned when choosing a donor site

Practice

Good day to all our readers! Today we want to tell you how not to get burned when buying links, and how to get the maximum effect from using outbound links.

In our article about working with the Sape link exchange, we already mentioned that not all links are equally useful for the site being promoted. But when working with Sape or other link exchanges, nowhere does it tell you which sites are good and which aren't. After all, exchanges only list the basic parameters, such as TIC and PR. But links from a site with good TIC and PR won't always work productively and give a good result.

When choosing a site to place your link on, you also need to look at how spammy the resource is.
For example, if the donor site where you're planning to place your link has PR=3, TIC=300, and a high spam level, you won't achieve the effect you expected.

Also, when working with link exchanges, it sometimes happens that a site's stated metrics don't match reality. For example, the exchange might list a donor site's PR as 4, when in fact its PR is already down to 2. This happens because exchanges lag behind the search engines in updating site data.

But there's no need to be upset, these two problems are solved with a single browser extension. This extension is called RDS Bar.

Installing RDS Bar

Installing this extension is quite simple. Go to http://www.recipdonor.com/bar and click the button to install RDS Bar.

After you install the extension, the browser will ask you to restart your computer, after which a panel like this will appear in your browser.

Now you can check not only the metrics of the site's home page, but also the metrics of internal pages (the PR of an internal page, its indexing status in Google and Yandex).

But most importantly – you can now check whether the site where you want to place your link is spammy or not.

To see how spammy a site is in terms of outbound links, you need to take a couple of simple steps:

  1. In the RDS Bar settings, check whether Linkpad is enabled. To do this, click the gear-shaped settings icon and tick Linkpad.
  2. Open the site where you want to place your link, and pay attention to the readings in RDS Bar. Of course, you should also check PR and TIC, and don't forget to look at Linkpad.
Linkpad shows two numbers: the green figures show the number of inbound links to the site, and the red ones – show the outbound links, respectively.
For example, in this picture the Linkpad readings are 145/99, i.e. the site has 145 inbound links and 99 outbound links to other sites.
