An interactive prototype is a valid user interface model. It simulates the operation of the system, so that it can be evaluated in action even before development has begun. Although the prototype does not save data and does not work with the database, otherwise it can be as close as possible to the future product. Usually, these are interconnected HTML pages by imitating system responses through JavaScript. Although in some cases it can be made on Flash or other technologies.
Examples of interactive prototypes
Purpose
- Demonstration to investors. The current product model can be shown to investors even before time and money are invested in development.
- Refinement of the concept. When working on complex and innovative projects, there are constantly experiments on the concept and, accordingly, the interface. It is easy to make changes to the prototype, and therefore to compare alternative solutions.
- Early usability testing. The prototype allows you to test the convenience and efficiency of the system, showing it to potential users.
- Part of the technical specifications for developers. The development team is easier to understand how the system should work, having worked with its current model.
