  Circular segment area

The area of a circular segment that is not equal to a semicircle is calculated by the formula

  Circular segment area

where α is the degree measure of the corresponding central angle that contains the arc of this circular segment, and SΔ is the area of the triangle with the vertices in the center of the circle and the ends of the radii bounding the corresponding sector. The “-” sign must be taken when α <180 °, and the “+” sign must be taken when α> 180 °.
