The iris tissue contains a special dye-substance- melanin. Depending on the amount of this pigment, the color of the iris varies from gray and blue to brown almost black. In the absence of pigment (people with such eyes are called albinos), light rays penetrate into the eye not only through the pupil, but also through the tissues of the iris. The word "astigmatism" consists of the Greek "stigme", which means the point, and the particle-negation "a". Thus, astigmatism is an eye disease in which there are no points at all. When astigmatism after refraction in the optical system of the eye, the light rays do not converge at one point, but are projected onto the retina in the form of several points, segments of different lengths, circles or ovals.
