The very name humanistic, that is, human, as if underlines the opposition of this direction of psychotherapy to other psychotherapeutic areas. And aren't other psychotherapeutic areas "not human" directed to help a person cope with his psychological problems?
The fact is that, recognizing the achievements of other areas of psychotherapy, representatives of the humanistic direction rightly believe that both psychoanalytic and behavioral and other approaches do not trust the person himself, imposing certain forms of analysis and influence on him. In contrast, representatives of humanistic therapy see the main reserves in the personality of the person himself, in the forces of good, mental health and the desire to improve, which were originally embedded in it.
Therefore, humanists therapists see their main task in creating conditions for the disclosure of their own reserves of the human person. However, they do not believe that the individual and society are in conflict. On the contrary, in the opinion of the “humanists”, the person has a desire to unite with his own kind, the need for love, friendship, cooperation. It is only important to liberate these tendencies and create an atmosphere of security and security of their natural manifestation.
