Appendix 6. Cancer Patient Self-Assessment Scale of Experience Intensity

Lecture

Self-assessment using the Scale of Intensity of Experiences of the Cancer Patient is carried out on the basis of the distress self-assessment method of the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS).

In the distress self-assessment method as modified by us, the term «distress» has been replaced with the term «experience».

Patients independently mark the level, as they subjectively assess it, of their experiences related to the illness, treatment and the changes in life associated with them on a form (see below).

Indicators:

the maximum assessment level equals 8, the minimum equals 0;

from 1 to 6 points are recognized as normative in the situation of cancer treatment,

6 points and above indicate a level of strong and extremely strong emotional tension,

an indicator of 0 may attest to latent (hidden) depression or to the suppression of negative experiences in connection with the cancer, which is a risk factor for maladjustment.
