Irrational numbers

Lecture

Many irrational numbers are infinite-periodic fractions.

Examples of irrational numbers :

  • √ 2 = 1.41213652 ...
  • √ 3 = 1,730508075 ...
  • (pi number) π = 3.14159 ...
  • (the base of the natural logarithm) e = 2,71845 ...

Denotes the set of irrational numbers by a capital English letter [ai] - I.

Among the set of numbers, irrational numbers occupy a special place. They are not included in rational numbers.

Irrational numbers (unlike rational ones) cannot be represented as a fraction a / b , where a ∈ Z (a belongs to integers), b∈N (b belongs to natural numbers).
