A series-excited DC motor: the field winding is in series with the armature and therefore carries the armature current. The flux grows with load, giving a high starting torque (M ∝ Ia²) but a soft characteristic — at no load the speed rises sharply. Used in traction drives and starters. The model shows the torque M, the speed n (rpm) and the direction of rotation; with zero current the motor does not rotate.
