Drawing trainer with scoring of proportions, rhythm, shape and color

The trainer develops your eye and sense of composition right in the browser. A random sample is shown on the left: a single shape, a composition of several shapes or a rhythmic row. On the right there is a canvas with paints where you need to repeat the sample as accurately as possible. You can draw with the mouse, a finger or a stylus on a phone or tablet.

How the drawing is scored

The drawing is compared with the sample by four criteria, each scored as a percentage:
— Shape: how well the silhouettes match when both drawings are brought to the same size;
— Proportions: the width to height ratio of the whole composition, the fill density and the position of the center of mass;
— Rhythm: the alternation of shapes and gaps horizontally and vertically and the number of separate elements;
— Color: how well the set of colors and their placement match.
The position and scale of the drawing on the canvas do not matter: you can draw bigger, smaller or elsewhere on the canvas, only the ratios are scored. The similarity is recalculated after every stroke, and the "Score" button fixes the result and awards points.

Training modes

The six "What to train" buttons select the mode:
— Everything at once: all four criteria are scored;
— Shape: shapes and compositions are drawn as outlines like a sketch and should be repeated with lines too, color is ignored;
— Proportions: elongated shapes with a given aspect ratio and pairs of shapes with a definite size ratio;
— Rhythm: rows of repeating, alternating and growing shapes;
— Color: color stripes, grids and colored compositions;
— 3D shapes: solid bodies from a random viewpoint: cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, sphere, pyramid, triangular and hexagonal prisms and a truncated pyramid. The visible edges and contours have to be repeated with lines, shape and proportions are scored.
In a single-criterion mode the final percentage equals the score of that criterion, and the others are shown for reference. Statistics are kept separately for each mode.

Points and progress

Points depend on the final percentage and the difficulty, a result of 90% or more earns a bonus, and the "From memory" mode multiplies points by one and a half. The total points, level, best result, streak of good attempts and the history of recent tasks are saved in the browser. The selected settings, the current task and an unfinished drawing are remembered too, so after closing the browser you can continue right where you left off.

Canvas tools

Brush, eraser, fill, as well as rectangle, ellipse, triangle and line, a palette of 12 colors with a picker for any color, brush size, undo and clear. The helper grid makes it easier to compare proportions.
